Building Code Violations and Potential Health Risks
Keeley Lake Lodge, at one point, used to be known as a beautiful lake getaway and a prime hunting location for people from all across North America. However, in recent years, the once well-maintained hunting lodge has been deteriorating before the eyes of its long-term residents. When I visited Keeley Lake on May 3, 2023, I was shocked to see that the restaurant attached to the lodge was piled with boxes and garbage, and it appeared to be permanently closed. The roads were littered with empty bottles and cans of alcohol, and the staff seemed very unfriendly. It was disheartening to witness the decline of what was once a cherished and thriving destination for travelers and hunters alike.
The deterioration of Keeley Lake Lodge has become a matter of public concern, drawing the attention of not just the local community but also travelers who once cherished the destination. The lodge’s decline has transformed what was once a beautiful lake getaway and a sought-after hunting location into a sad shadow of its former self.
One of the major issues that have escalated the scrutiny is the alleged building code violations. Long-term residents of Keeley Lake are worried that the recent renovations at the lodge might be concealing a serious mold problem in the rooms. Mold can pose significant health risks, especially if left unchecked, and concerns about this potential hazard have only intensified the sense of unease surrounding the lodge.
Adding to the public concern is the revelation that the lodge’s renovations were undertaken without obtaining proper approval from a building inspector. This lack of oversight raises questions about the quality and safety of the work done on the premises, and whether it adheres to the necessary standards and regulations. It also calls into question the responsibility and accountability of those responsible for managing the lodge.
John Sack, a resident at Keeley Lake was informed by employees at the lodge that the renovations have reached a staggering $250,000.00. These renovations were done without any approval or authorization from the lodge’s interim-manager and accountant Tom McKenzie.
The absence of weekly water inspections this season has further fueled worries about the overall hygiene and safety conditions of the lodge. Adequate water inspections are vital to ensure the well-being of visitors and residents, and the failure to conduct these checks has raised doubts about the lodge’s commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for guests.
Pictures from May 2023, reveal the visible deterioration of the lodge’s structure have sparked alarm in the area. Concerned citizens fear that the structural integrity of the building might be compromised, posing potential risks to the occupants. The lodge’s condition not only tarnishes its reputation but also creates an unsettling atmosphere for anyone considering a stay or visit.
The littered roads and the unresponsive and unfriendly staff add to the growing list of issues that need urgent attention. Proper maintenance is crucial to uphold the lodge’s reputation as a desirable destination, and the state of the roads and premises sends a negative message to potential visitors about the level of care and professionalism at Keeley Lake Lodge.
Urgent action is needed to address these issues and restore the lodge to its former glory, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and welcoming environment for all visitors and residents. The responsible authorities must step in to investigate the concerns and take appropriate measures to rectify the situation, safeguarding the legacy of Keeley Lake Lodge as a cherished destination for generations to come.
