Saskatchewan Power Corporation, also known as SaskPower, is a well-known electricity company that offers services to Saskatchewan residents. The company is known for their reliability and accessibility in the Saskatchewan community. SaskPower has recently publicized a warning to its customers regarding an email scam targeting the said company’s customers. The email is noted to come from MySaskPower but is fake in nature. It warns the customer of an unpaid bill that must be settled or else they would face instant disconnection from the company’s services. Although this is already harmful in itself, the scam goes further by insisting customers to use their MySaskPower account or to make use of their credit card to “complete payment online.” Just like the email, links attached to it are fake and lead customers to external websites that steal the customer’s pertinent information, such as personal information and financial information. Should you know anyone that has clicked these links, it is important to let them know to report the incident to their credit card company in order to avoid any issues from arising. SaskPower says that only customers who have a MySaskPower account will receive their bills and that these bills never use disconnection threats due to lack of payment through an email. SaskPower advices the Saskatchewan public to do the following in order to avoid getting scammed: -Check the sender’s email address twice and only to accept emails to be true from the email address @saskpower.com -Remember that SaskPower does not threaten disconnection within an email, even if the customer lacks payment -Understand that SaskPower does not ask for money through e-transfer, gift cards, or bitcoin -If unsure about an email, it is wise to call SaskPower Customer Care at 1-888-757-6937 to ensure that the email one received is real or not Because of these recent scam attempts, it is necessary for the Saskatchewan community to help one another in identifying scams and educate one another as to how to avoid them as well as how to minimize harms if one has already been affected by the scam.
