SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA – In a groundbreaking move toward a sustainable future, Saskatchewan is witnessing a transformative shift in its energy sector with the rise of green energy solutions. Moment Energy, a leading Canadian company specializing in commercial battery energy storage systems, has recently formed a strategic partnership with Saskatchewan Renewable Energy Solutions (SRES), ushering in a new era of clean, affordable, and reliable energy.

Through a collaborative agreement, SRES is committed to a triple-bottom-line approach, focusing on people, the economy, and the planet. The organization will harness its industry expertise to identify projects that can take advantage of Moment Energy’s cutting-edge battery energy storage systems. This innovative partnership not only marks a significant milestone for both companies but also holds immense promise for the Saskatchewan community.

At the core of this collaboration lies the utilization of second-life Electric Vehicle (EV) batteries as energy storage solutions — a move aimed at reducing fossil fuel reliance and easing strain on the electrical grid. Dimitri Kourles, Founder and CEO of SRES, emphasized the strategic significance of this approach. He stated “Our goal is to create a resilient energy infrastructure in the province while contributing to the development of a circular economy. By repurposing retired EV batteries for sustainable energy storage, we are paving the way for a greener tomorrow.”

This partnership aligns seamlessly with Saskatchewan’s potential to utilize renewable energy sources effectively. With abundant solar resources, the southern part of the province stands as a solar energy powerhouse waiting to be fully tapped. By harnessing photovoltaic technology, Saskatchewan can become a leading exporter of solar and wind energy for generations to come. The province’s favorable wind conditions further enhance its capacity to export clean electricity, not only reducing reliance on fossil fuels but also fostering economic growth.

The move towards green energy solutions is not just a matter of environmental consciousness; it is an economic necessity. Saskatchewan’s vast potential in renewable energy can create thousands of jobs and boost economic development, especially in smaller towns. By embracing renewable energy sources, the province can steer clear of fossil fuel dependency, ensuring a stable energy supply without harming the environment.

Addressing concerns about the transition, Minister Bronwyn Eyre and Premier Scott Moe need to recognize that energy is not limited to non-renewable fossil fuels. Saskatchewan has the opportunity to lead the charge toward carbon neutrality. By adopting sustainable practices in homes, businesses, transportation, and agriculture, the province can significantly reduce its carbon footprint. Retrofitting homes to energy-efficient standards, utilizing geothermal energy, and integrating passive solar solutions are just a few effective methods for significantly reducing heating costs and energy consumption in Saskatchewan.
