Saskatechewan is known to be a safe place to live. You can go anywhere in Saskatchewan and feel comforted by knowing that nothing bad will happen to you. The police department is well-trusted and local governing bodies handle the security of their towns seriously. Once in a while, however, crime slips between the cracks of Saskatchewan’s well-built foundation of safety. In Prince Albert, the third largest city in the province of Saskatchewan, people’s safety has come into question as its police department discovered the body of a dead man in his home.
Last June 4, 2023, at about 2:30 PM, police officers from the Prince Albert RCMP were requested to conduct a welfare check on a man and what they uncovered was an unexpected sight not usually seen in a place as safe as Prince Albert. The man in question lived in a house on Oxbow Street, which was approximately 10 kilometers from Prince Albert. According to the police in a media release, when the police arrived on the scene, they found a man who had passed away and eventually arrested a different man who was found with him. As a result, the deceased man is believed to have passed away in his own home. The other man found with the deceased man is considered as the accused individual in the case.
The man accused of committing murder is Justin Madden, 40, is said to have known the victim Frank Lund (78 years old). Lund’s death was declared to be suspicious in nature, which led Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes to take the lead in the case’s investigation. In addition, law enforcement is also looking into Lund’s official cause of death by having an autopsy done. Because of the crime’s context and further evidence relating to it, law enforcement believes that there are no other suspects in the case.
Lund’s family has been made aware of his passing and were provided victim services. Madden appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court last Tuesday, June 6. Madden was charged with second-degree murder and is currently undergoing due process for his crime.
