Egypt’s president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, has made a strong appeal to Donald Trump, saying only he can stop the growing conflict in the Gulf region.
Speaking at an energy conference in Cairo, Sisi warned that the ongoing tensions could push oil prices above $200 per barrel, which he said is “not an exaggeration.” According to Reuters, he stressed that attacks on energy facilities and supply routes could cause serious damage to the global economy.
At the same time, Sisi highlighted a bigger concern: a possible global food crisis. He explained that disruptions in fertilizer exports, which are key for farming, could lead to higher food prices, especially in poorer countries. As a result, many nations may struggle to keep their economies stable.
The situation has become more serious as tensions affect major oil routes like the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for global energy supply. Any disruption there could quickly raise fuel prices worldwide.
However, Sisi expressed confidence in Trump’s influence, pointing out his past role in helping push for a ceasefire in Gaza. He urged Trump to step in again, saying he has the power and leadership to calm the situation.
