Pakistan has received an official invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join a new international effort called the “Board of Peace” aimed at supporting peace and security in war-torn Gaza. The invitation was delivered to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and confirmed by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This Board of Peace is part of the second phase of Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan, designed to help guide reconstruction and create a lasting resolution to the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Islamabad’s foreign office said Pakistan will stay engaged with global partners to work toward peace in the Gaza Strip and a durable solution to the Palestine issue consistent with United Nations resolutions.

In a statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to these international peace efforts. He said the country would continue cooperating with the world community to support peace and security in Gaza,a region devastated by years of conflict and humanitarian crisis.

The Board of Peace initiative has already drawn interest from many nations. Trump’s administration has reportedly sent invitations to leaders from more than 60 countries, including Turkey, Egypt, Argentina, Canada, and others as part of an effort to broaden international involvement in post-conflict governance and reconstruction.

Although details about the Board’s exact structure and functions remain somewhat unclear, early reports suggest that it will include high-profile figures from global politics and diplomacy. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and senior Trump advisers have been named as key participants on the initiative’s executive team.

Pakistan’s acceptance of the invitation marks a notable step in its foreign policy, blending its historic support for the Palestinian cause with active diplomatic engagement in broader global peace initiatives. For Islamabad, this participation is framed as consistent with its long-standing support for a peaceful two-state solution and its commitment to working within established international frameworks.

While the peace plan and the Board of Peace remain controversial in some quarters — especially given the complex politics of the Middle East, Pakistan’s inclusion signals a commitment to being part of international efforts to address one of the world’s most persistent conflicts.

Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88. He died at his residence in Vatican City after suffering a stroke and heart failure.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, he became the first Latin American pope in 2013. Known for his humility and focus on helping the poor, he often spoke about social justice and caring for the environment. He also worked to reform the Church and address issues like corruption and abuse.

Despite recent health challenges, including a bout of double pneumonia earlier this year, his death was unexpected. His last public appearance was on Easter Sunday, where he delivered a blessing to the faithful.

Following his passing, traditional Vatican procedures have begun. Cardinals are meeting to plan his funeral, which is expected to take place between April 25 and 27 in Rome. In a break from tradition, Pope Francis wished to be buried in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major instead of St. Peter’s Basilica.

World leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump and Argentine President Javier Milei, plan to attend the funeral. The Pope’s body will lie in state at the Santa Marta residence and may be moved to St. Peter’s Basilica for public viewing by Wednesday.

The process to elect a new pope, known as a conclave, is expected to begin no earlier than May 6. There are 135 cardinals eligible to vote, many of whom were appointed by Pope Francis himself.

Pope Francis is remembered for his efforts to modernize the Church and his commitment to the marginalized. His leadership left a lasting impact on the Catholic community and the world.

The Indian Oil and Gas Company (IOGC) and the Ministry of Energy and Resources forced the local Canadian company You First Energy (YFE) into receivership due to absurd fees and bureaucracy. As a result, You First Energy cannot afford to provide cheap energy to local Canadians. These unnecessary fees prevent them from running wells on native lands, yielding profits, and significantly impacting the community, Saskatchewan taxpayers, and the company’s operations.

You First Energy, in a move that shows the injustice they’ve faced, announced they will cease operations and shut down their wells by July 31. Persistently low natural gas prices since the acquisition of the wells have led to significant losses. Future Now Enterprises Inc., the primary investor, has incurred substantial losses and is no longer willing to invest further funds, hoping prices will improve to profitable levels. Even if prices were to improve, the wells would still operate at a loss because of the Ministry of Energy and Resources and the Indian Oil and Gas Company.

Government officials, who should be helping to find solutions, have become lazy, greedy, corrupt, and negligent. Jim Reiter, a minister from the Ministry of Energy, has ignored numerous concerns, and his subordinates, Candace Dominique and Brad Wagner, have failed to follow rules or common-sense practices for Saskatchewan taxpayers, costing millions.

Tim Cimmer, president of You First Energy, stated they have a great relationship with the First Nation landowners CTK but have been forced by the Ministry of Energy and Resources and the Indian Oil and Gas Company to impose a receivership carryover with MNP controlling the order, wasting Saskatchewan taxpayers’ money by millions over the last five years. Cimmer said they were employing locals, supplying Saskatchewan residents, and could sustain low gas prices given their production capacity. However, the losses are estimated to be between $500,000 and $800,000, plus the purchase price due to outdated 20-year-old rules and historically low gas prices.

The list of creditors is long and varied. The Indian Oil and Gas Company claims about $500,000, mainly for royalties before Abbey’s receivership, the previous owner. They argue that historical unpaid royalties attach to the wells, making the current owner responsible. This claim falls under ‘Cure Costs,’ a term in the contract that refers to the costs a new owner must incur to rectify past issues. The Ministry of Energy and Resources demands $130,000 to $600,000 based on a Licensee Liability Rating (LLR) calculation. This calculation, based on their formulas, requires the company to pay if the net present value of assets does not exceed reclamation liabilities.

You First Energy refused to pay this assessed amount, leading to the threat of receivership by the Ministry of Resource and Energy. Other unsecured creditors include various vendors owed $60,000 to $80,000, and TransGas, guaranteed by Future Now Enterprises Inc., must be paid about $20,000. Additionally, $20,000 of Carbon Tax is owed, reduced from $40,000 due to retained GST claims. An application to overturn this amount is being processed, but the chance of acceptance is low due to government wrongdoing, placing another burden on Saskatchewan taxpayers. Instead of using the $27 million liability already forfeited from these wells to the Orphan gas fund, which the Saskatchewan people should audit to learn why so much money has been given to MNP, taxpayers should track these funds to see if there has been overspending on obscured costs.

This situation shows the severe impact of excessive fees and bureaucratic hurdles on local energy providers. You First Energy’s shutdown means a loss of affordable energy for Canadians and highlights the challenges small companies face in the energy sector. With their corrupt fees and exploitative practices, different entities are driving local businesses under, causing significant economic and social harm. These practices undermine local companies’ survival and deprive communities of essential services and affordable energy, exacerbating financial strain on local Canadians. The forced closure of You First Energy reminds us how powerful entities can disrupt local economies and livelihoods through unfair financial demands.

This allows them to address their unique challenges more effectively.

Keeley Lake Meets Hamlet Criteria

According to the Saskatchewan government, a hamlet is an area within a rural municipality (RM) with at least 10 subdivided lots and five occupied homes. Keeley Lake exceeds these requirements, with more than 10 lots and year-round residents. The Keeley Lake Resort supports the community by providing essential services like food, water, shelter, and gasoline.

Government Support for Northern Communities

The Saskatchewan government acknowledges these challenges and focuses on helping northern communities improve their standard of living. They emphasize supporting key northern industries like mineral exploration, forestry development, tourism, and commercial fishing. Partnerships among northern agencies are also encouraged to strengthen the local economy.

Importance of Keeley Lake

Keeley Lake is a vital gateway to the NSAD, making it a strategic location for focusing on available government resources. Keeley Lake as a recognized hamlet ensure better management of essential services, including waste and recycling collection. According to Section 43(1)(f) of the Northern Municipalities Act, 2010, a service district can manage waste collection, disposal, and recycling. Currently, Keeley Lake Resort handles these tasks, but official hamlet status would improve efficiency and oversight.

Self-Governance Benefits

Keeley Lake having the ability to vote and govern itself empowers the community to address its specific needs directly. They could prioritize infrastructure development, education, and local economic growth. This autonomy fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility, leading to more effective and tailored solutions.

In conclusion, the Keeley Lake community has the population and infrastructure as a hamlet. Recognizing this status voting rights enable them to manage their affairs better and overcome the unique challenges they face in Northern Saskatchewan.

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, former President Donald Trump is once again rallying his base, particularly targeting evangelical Christians. In a speech delivered at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s “Road to Majority” conference in Washington, D.C., Trump emphasized his commitment to Christian values and warned that re-electing Joe Biden would endanger Christianity in the United States.

Trump’s speech aimed to portray himself as a defender of faith against what he called the “radical left.” He accused them of “silencing” Christians and argued that Biden’s re-election would leave Christianity “in tatters.” Trump’s remarks were met with enthusiastic applause from the more than a thousand attendees, many of whom wore red “Make America Great Again” caps and waved American flags.

Ralph Reed, founder and chair of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, introduced Trump as a steadfast supporter of faith and freedom. Reed acknowledged initial skepticism about Trump’s commitment to evangelical voters but praised his record as president, especially his appointment of conservative judges. These appointments were crucial in the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, a landmark ruling that had guaranteed the constitutional right to an abortion.

Trump took credit for this ruling but also defended his stance against a national abortion ban. He argued that the decision to regulate abortion should be left to individual states, reflecting a balance between maintaining conservative values and addressing concerns that stricter abortion laws could hurt Republican electoral prospects.

Throughout his speech, Trump emphasized his personal sacrifices and struggles, comparing his political persecution to physical wounds. He urged evangelical Christians to vote in large numbers, highlighting their potential power in the upcoming election. “Christians go to church but they don’t vote that much. Do you know the power you would have if you would vote? So you have got to get out and vote, just this time,” Trump implored.

Trump’s appeal to evangelicals is strategic, given their significant support in previous elections. A Pew survey earlier this year indicated that around 80% of white evangelical Protestant voters would support Trump if the election were held today. Trump also garners strong support from white non-evangelical Protestants and white Catholics.

Trump’s speech wasn’t limited to religious themes. He also took the opportunity to criticize Biden’s handling of the economy. He used a prop—a miniature box of Tic Tac candies—to illustrate his point about inflation, a tactic he hinted he might use in the upcoming presidential debate. Trump blamed Biden for what he called the “inflation nightmare” and promised to end it if elected.

The Biden campaign quickly responded to Trump’s speech, calling it “incoherent” and “unhinged.” A spokesperson described Trump as a threat to American freedoms and unfit to return to the White House.

Despite these criticisms, Trump’s supporters at the conference remained optimistic about his chances. Many described him as a man of faith protected by divine intervention. Alfonso Talavera, a real estate agent from Maryland, expressed confidence in Trump’s resilience, saying, “He is a person that God is protecting. He is a faithful person. When he speaks, he goes to the gospel and he asks for prayers as well.”

In addition to his religious and economic rhetoric, Trump previewed his strategy for the upcoming presidential debate against Biden. He highlighted the issue of inflation, using the Tic Tac demonstration to underscore the impact of what he called “shrinkflation.” This tactic, though not allowed in the debate due to restrictions on props, signals Trump’s intent to focus on economic grievances.

As the election season intensifies, Trump’s appeal to evangelical voters and his focus on economic issues suggest that he is gearing up for a vigorous campaign. His ability to mobilize his base, particularly among religious conservatives, will be crucial as he seeks to return to the presidency.

The situation for Catholic Christians in Africa has become dire. In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in the persecution, displacement, and killing of Christians across the continent. In 28 of Africa’s 54 countries, Christians face daily threats from radical Islamist groups.

Nigeria is currently the epicenter of this crisis. According to Open Doors US, nine out of ten Christians killed for their faith in 2023 were from Nigeria. The International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law estimates that over 8,000 Nigerian Christians were killed or abducted between January 2023 and January 2024. The violence is brutal, with many being hacked to death, their homes and churches burned, and their families displaced.

The rise of radical Islam in Africa has made it increasingly dangerous to be a Christian. Groups like Boko Haram in Nigeria and al-Shabaab in Somalia are well-known perpetrators, but there are many lesser-known groups in countries like Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo that are equally violent. This wave of extremism has forced millions of Christians to flee their homes, contributing to the 16.2 million displaced Christians across sub-Saharan Africa.

The tragic irony is that while these Islamist militants spread terror and chaos, many Muslims have sought refuge in predominantly Christian countries. Nations that have historically welcomed Muslims are now experiencing a surge in violence and crime perpetrated by some of these refugees. This situation is particularly evident in parts of Europe and North America, where increasing numbers of radicalized individuals are attacking Christian symbols and institutions.

In London, for example, a Muslim man was recently caught tearing down a cross in a church. This act of vandalism raises a fundamental question: why would someone who hates Christians choose to migrate to a predominantly Christian country? This disturbing trend is seen as a betrayal by many, who feel that their hospitality and acceptance are being repaid with hatred and violence.

The situation in Africa and the reaction in the West highlight a broader issue of religious intolerance and the clash between radical ideologies and more moderate, welcoming societies. While many Muslims live peacefully and integrate well into their host countries, the actions of a radical minority are causing significant harm and fostering a climate of fear and mistrust.

Governments and international organizations need to address this crisis with urgency. In Africa, the focus should be on protecting vulnerable Christian communities and holding perpetrators accountable. This includes urging the Nigerian government to take a stronger stance against extremist groups like the Fulani militants who have been attacking Christian villages, burning homes, and displacing people to claim land for grazing.

In the West, there must be a balanced approach to refugee policies, ensuring that those seeking safety are thoroughly vetted and that radical elements are identified and dealt with promptly. It’s crucial to foster an environment of mutual respect and understanding while safeguarding the security and values of host countries.

Religious freedom is a fundamental human right, and its violation must be condemned and addressed globally. The suffering of Christians in Africa and the rising tensions in the West should serve as a wake-up call for stronger action against religious extremism and violence.

Campbell emphasized that the treaty extends to armed attacks on Philippine armed forces, public vessels, or aircraft in the South China Sea.

The Philippine government task force overseeing the territorial disputes condemned China’s “dangerous maneuvers” and accused Chinese maritime forces of ramming and towing Filipino boats. Despite these provocations, Filipino personnel demonstrated restraint, carrying on with their mission to deliver supplies to the BRP Sierra Madre, a grounded warship serving as a territorial outpost.

Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. stated that the armed forces would resist China’s “dangerous and reckless behavior,” which contradicts China’s statements of good faith and decency. He emphasized the need to protect the Philippines’ territorial integrity and sovereign rights, calling on the international community to recognize China’s actions as obstacles to peace and stability.

This confrontation is part of a broader pattern of Chinese assertiveness. China has been pressing its claim to virtually the entire South China Sea, leading to increased conflicts with other countries, notably the Philippines and Vietnam. A new Chinese law, effective from Saturday, authorizes its coast guard to seize foreign ships and detain their crews for up to 60 days, further escalating tensions.

China’s actions are not limited to the South China Sea. There are growing concerns that China is instigating conflicts in other regions to challenge U.S. influence. By creating instability abroad, China aims to divert U.S. attention and resources, weakening its global position. Additionally, these conflicts could lead to increased migration from war-torn areas to Western countries, potentially straining their economies and social systems.

Opinion: China’s Strategic Moves and Their Global Impact

In recent months, China’s aggressive actions in various regions have raised significant concerns worldwide. The prevailing fear is that China might be instigating new conflicts abroad to overwhelm the United States and flood Western countries with low-quality migrants, potentially destabilizing their economies.

China’s strategy appears multifaceted. By creating and escalating conflicts, China can divert the attention and resources of the United States. This tactic aims to stretch U.S. military and diplomatic capabilities thin, making it harder for the U.S. to maintain its influence and respond effectively to multiple crises. The South China Sea confrontations, for instance, could be part of this larger strategy to keep the U.S. engaged in prolonged disputes.

Moreover, the potential influx of migrants from conflict zones into Western countries poses another layer of threat. Many of these migrants might lack the skills required to integrate smoothly into advanced economies. This could lead to increased unemployment, social tensions, and greater strain on public services in host countries. The economic burden and social challenges associated with large-scale migration can destabilize economies, making it difficult for Western nations to maintain economic stability and growth.

China’s actions also send a broader message about its growing ambition to reshape global power dynamics. By aggressively asserting its territorial claims and engaging in confrontations, China signals its readiness to challenge international norms and the existing global order. This shift in behavior can embolden other countries with territorial ambitions, leading to a more fragmented and unstable international environment.

The international community must recognize these implications and respond with a coordinated strategy. Diplomatic efforts should be intensified to hold China accountable and uphold international laws. Additionally, countries affected by China’s aggressive maneuvers must strengthen their alliances and enhance their defensive capabilities to deter further provocations.

The recent events highlight the urgent need for a unified global response to China’s tactics. The stability of the international order and the well-being of economies worldwide depend on addressing these challenges effectively. As tensions continue to rise, the actions taken by the United States, its allies, and other affected nations will be crucial in shaping the future of global stability and peace.

June 21, 2024, Hanoi – In a significant move to strengthen diplomatic relationships, Vietnam is actively rebuilding connections with both North Korea and Russia. This initiative aims to bolster Vietnam’s strategic position amidst the evolving geopolitical landscape in Asia.

During a recent visit to Vietnam, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed several agreements with Vietnamese leaders, focusing on areas such as education, science, technology, oil and gas exploration, and clean energy. This visit is part of Russia’s broader strategy to strengthen ties in Asia, countering its increasing isolation due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The agreements reflect a mutual interest in enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including the potential development of a nuclear science and technology center in Vietnam.

Putin’s visit to Vietnam followed a significant meeting in North Korea, where he signed a strategic pact with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. This pact includes provisions for mutual aid in the event of an invasion, marking a significant development in the relationship between Russia and North Korea. The agreement underscores both countries’ desire to counter Western pressures and build stronger alliances in the region.

The cooperation between Russia and Vietnam is not new, as diplomatic relations date back to 1950. This year marks the 30th anniversary of a treaty establishing friendly relations between the two nations. Despite the long-standing ties, Vietnam’s pragmatic policy, often referred to as “bamboo diplomacy” for its flexibility, is increasingly being tested. Vietnam continues to navigate its relationships with major global powers, including the United States and China, hosting both U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in 2023.

Vietnam’s diplomatic strategy is critical as it seeks to balance relationships with major powers while advancing its economic ambitions. Russia remains a key supplier of military equipment to Vietnam, and Russian oil exploration technologies support Vietnam’s claims in the contested South China Sea. However, Vietnam is cautious about aligning too closely with Russia, given the potential repercussions from Western nations.

The recent agreements between Russia and Vietnam do not explicitly address defense matters, but both sides have expressed a commitment to maintaining security and freedom of navigation in the South China Sea. This is crucial for Vietnam, as it seeks to uphold its sovereignty in the region.

North Korea, on the other hand, sees its relationship with Russia as a means to gain economic assistance and technological support, especially amid escalating tensions with the West. Both countries deny accusations of weapons transfers, which would violate multiple U.N. Security Council sanctions.

For Vietnam, the challenge lies in maintaining a neutral stance while fostering beneficial relationships with various global powers. The visit by Putin highlights Vietnam’s ability to maintain a delicate balance in its foreign policy, a testament to its diplomatic agility.

Vietnam’s efforts to rebuild relationships with North Korea and Russia signify a strategic move to strengthen its position in the region. As Vietnam continues to diversify its partnerships and navigate the complexities of international relations, its pragmatic approach will be essential in maintaining stability and promoting its national interests. This diplomatic endeavor reflects Vietnam’s ongoing commitment to fostering peace and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
