Canada is a fishing paradise, boasting over two million lakes and a variety of fish species ready to be caught. Whether you prefer freshwater or saltwater fishing, Canada offers an abundance of opportunities. Today, we will unveil our top picks for the best fishing spots in Canada for 2024. So, let’s count down the seven best fishing spots in Canada for this year.

    7. Mississauga, Lake Ontario, Ontario

Starting our countdown at number seven, we have Mississauga on Lake Ontario. This urban fishing spot offers incredible Coho and Chinook Salmon, Steelhead, Brown, and Lake Trout fishing from May to October. The blend of urban amenities and excellent fishing makes Mississauga a unique destination.

For a quieter experience, head to nearby Lake Simcoe, known for Black Crappie, Northern Pike, and Smallmouth Bass. The diverse fisheries and proximity to Toronto’s attractions make this a perfect spot for a fishing trip.

    6. Campbell River, British Columbia

At number six is Campbell River, British Columbia, known as the “Salmon Capital of the World.” This area offers unparalleled Salmon fishing, with all five species of Pacific Salmon – Chinook, Coho, Chum, Pink, and Sockeye – available.

From July to September, you can target the mighty Tyee Chinook. With local guides ready to assist, whether you prefer fly fishing or offshore trolling, Campbell River promises an unforgettable fishing experience.

    5. Lake of the Woods, Ontario

Lake of the Woods in Ontario holds the fifth spot in our countdown. This angler’s paradise boasts 14,552 islands and 65,000 miles of shoreline, home to Walleye, Muskie, Northern Pike, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, and more.

You can enjoy fantastic fishing year-round. From mid-May to October, Walleye fishing is particularly productive, with monster-sized Walleye in the fall. During the winter, the lake transforms into a premier ice fishing destination, attracting anglers from far and wide.

    4. Yellowknife, Great Slave Lake, Northwest Territories

In the fourth spot is Yellowknife, located on the shores of Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories. Known for its record-breaking Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Arctic Grayling, and Whitefish, this lake is a fishing haven. The best times to visit are from June to September and during the ice fishing season from December to March.

Imagine reeling in a 75-pound Lake Trout under the midnight sun or witnessing the Northern Lights while ice fishing. Yellowknife offers unique experiences that combine exceptional fishing with breathtaking natural phenomena.

    3. North Lake, Prince Edward Island

Heading over to the Atlantic, our third spot goes to North Lake, Prince Edward Island, famously known as the “Tuna Capital of the World.” Here, you can encounter Bluefin Tuna weighing between 600 and 1,200 pounds.

From late July to mid-October, these giant Bluefins come close to shore for the annual herring spawn, making it an ideal time for fishing. These fish’s sheer power and size offer a thrilling challenge for any angler. Besides Tuna, you can also find Mackerel and Sharks in these waters, adding to the adventure.
