Puerto Rican music star Bad Bunny made history at the 2026 Grammy Awards by winning Album of the Year, the most prestigious prize in music, with his Spanish-language record Debí Tirar Más Fotos. This is the first time in Grammy history that a Spanish-language album has taken home this top award, breaking a major language barrier in the music world.

The 31-year-old artist, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, beat out big names like Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga to win the award, which is widely seen as the highest honor at the annual ceremony. Debí Tirar Más Fotos is his sixth studio album and a tribute to his Puerto Rican roots and culture.

In his emotional acceptance speech, Bad Bunny thanked his team, his family, and his fans, and dedicated the award to immigrants and people who have had to leave their homelands to follow their dreams. He also spoke in Spanish before switching to English, honoring his heritage on a global stage.

The Grammy night also highlighted social issues. Many artists used their moments on stage to speak about immigration and human rights, reflecting current global discussions. Other winners included British singer Olivia Dean, who was named Best New Artist, and Billie Eilish, who took Song of the Year for her hit “Wildflower.”

Bad Bunny’s album has already won major awards before the Grammys. It was named Album of the Year at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2025, where it also won Best Urban Music Album. At the 2026 Grammy Awards, the album Debí Tirar Más Fotos brought Bad Bunny three Grammy wins, including Best Música Urbana Album and Best Global Music Performance.

This Grammy victory is significant not just for Bad Bunny, but for the global music industry. It shows the growing influence of Spanish-language music around the world and reflects how diverse sounds and cultures are being celebrated at the highest levels.

Bad Bunny is also set to headline the Super Bowl LX halftime show, making this a milestone moment in his career and for Latin music.
