Battlefords RCMP August overview: 2,420 calls for service

Battlefords RCMP in Saskatchewan logged 2,420 calls for service in August, along with 331 reports of property crime and 179 reports of persons crime, the detachment said in its August overview.

The RCMP cautions the figures come from its records management system and reflect what was recorded that day. The force says they are updated as investigations change, so they can differ from later reports.

In its August spotlight the detachment describes an arrest on August 26. Police received a report that a suspect had threatened a person with a weapon and tried to rob them. He left in a car that police had been told earlier that evening was stolen. Officers found the vehicle later and moved to stop it. The suspect fled again, struck several parked vehicles, then ran, and officers arrested him on foot.

A 32-year-old North Battleford man faces charges including robbery with a weapon, dangerous driving, flight from police and possession of stolen property, along with weapons offences.

The overview also records community work. An annual charity golf tournament the detachment hosted on July 20 at a local course drew 128 golfers and raised nearly $9,000. On August 25, Inspector How and Sergeant Stephens presented donations to Battlefords Victim Services, the North Battleford Legion and the Battlefords Citizens on Patrol Program. On August 31, officers attended a community barbecue that Big Brothers Big Sisters put on at a North Battleford skate park.
