Three charged after police allege staged Regina collision

Regina police have charged three people after concluding that a head-on collision in the city on January 4 was deliberately staged.
Officers went to 9th Avenue North and Pinkie Road at about 9 p.m. that night after a report of a crash between two vehicles. Each vehicle held a driver and a passenger. Paramedics assessed all four and took them to hospital, with injuries that appeared serious but not life-threatening, police said. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.
Months later, SGI told police it had evidence the crash may have been set up. The SGI Special Investigations Unit and several Regina Police Service teams then took up the case. Police say they determined the collision was staged on purpose.
Police arrested three of the four occupants on September 9, then laid these charges:
- Sukhveer KAUR, 23: fraud over $5,000.
- Akashdeep SINGH, 24: fraud over $5,000, and three counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.
- Gagandeep SINGH, 26: fraud over $5,000, and three counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.
The release does not say how the accused are connected to one another, and it does not state a dollar loss. It also does not say whether the fourth occupant faces charges.
All three made their first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on September 10. These are allegations only. Nothing has been proven in court.
