Three men face firearms charges after RCMP arrested them near Cando, Saskatchewan, early on October 20, 2026. RCMP announced the charges October 23.

RCMP say a Saskatoon Police Service air unit was tracking a truck at about 1:30 a.m. Corman Park Police Service had earlier reported it being driven dangerously on Highway 16 near Saskatoon.

The truck stopped on Baljennie Road south of Maymont. The driver got out, fired a gun into the air and drove on.

Battlefords RCMP used a tire deflation device. The truck ran over it and kept going.

At about 2:00 a.m., it stopped in a field near Cando and the occupants fled on foot. Officers arrested three men, and a Saskatoon police dog team found a firearm in a ditch.

The Battlefords Serious Crimes Unit laid the charges.

Walker Higgs, 23, and Darnell Starblanket, 25, are from Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation. Dennis Higgs, 24, is from Saskatoon.

All three are charged with possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and failing to comply with a probation order. Dennis Higgs faces two counts of that second charge.

Walker Higgs and Dennis Higgs also face possession of a firearm while prohibited. Walker Higgs is further charged with careless use of a firearm and operating a motor vehicle while prohibited.

On October 21, all three appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court. The charges are allegations. Nothing has been proven in court.
