Regina police announced on October 29 that a 41-year-old woman and a 17-year-old male have been charged with second degree murder in the August 30 death of Rebecca Autumn (Wilson) Mathieson, 37, who was injured in an assault on August 14. Police count it as the city’s fifth homicide of 2026.

According to a Regina Police Service release issued October 29, officers were called to the west alley in the 1400 block of Wascana Street at about 4 a.m. on August 14 for a report of an injured person. They found Mathieson with significant injuries. EMS took her to hospital, and she died on August 30.

Police say their continuing investigation led to a charge against Destinee Villebrun, 41. The release says she is charged with second degree murder under section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. Villebrun was scheduled to make her first appearance in Regina Provincial Court at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 29.

A 17-year-old male faces the same charge. The Youth Criminal Justice Act bars publication of his name, and the Herald is not identifying him. The release says he was to make his first appearance in Regina Provincial Youth Court at 2 p.m. the same day.

The charges are allegations. Nothing has been proven in court, and both accused are presumed innocent.

The release does not say how Mathieson was injured, what led to the incident or how the accused are connected to her.
